THE SECRET BEACH

Crafted under the guidance of legendary producer/engineer Rob Fraboni (known for his work with Bob Dylan, The Band, and The Rolling Stones), the new Secret Beach album, "We Were Born Here, What's Your Excuse?"—aptly named after The Simpsons episode where they travel to Winnipeg—is a timeless fusion of high-fidelity production and raw, organic charm.

Recorded in Micah Erenberg’s clandestine studio, where he eschews digital technology in favour of vintage equipment and analog tape, the album exudes a warmth and depth that beckons listeners to immerse themselves in its rich textures and intricate layers, as if transported to the very room where the tracks were conceived.

The album's sonic landscape is elevated by several noteworthy features. Prairie favourites Boy Golden, Fontine, and Kacy & Clayton grace a number of tracks, while "Where Did It Go?" showcases Micah’s childhood best friend, Daniel Diamond, who not only penned the song but also delivers a brilliantly emotive vocal performance. Additionally, the album includes "Hat’s Way Of Walking," a cover of the ultra-outsider artist The Famous Sandhogs, hailed by Micah as "the greatest band you've never heard."

“We Were Born Here, What's Your Excuse?" is out this August on Victory Pool Records. With its breathtaking beauty, emotional depth, and unique sonic innovation, this album firmly establishes itself as a masterpiece of homegrown magic and endearing allure."

SAM PLECKER

am Plecker’s newest release marks a metamorphosis complete. The Los Angeles musician and producer’s transformation began with his departure from the band Vista Kicks, which he co-founded as a teen. From humble beginnings, Sam’s tenure saw them move to Los Angeles and build an international fanbase that begged a constant touring and recording schedule, with Plecker at the helm as producer and engineer. When tensions frayed during the pandemic he departed for the mountains and Sam attempted to continue songwriting and producing for himself as he did before. Instead he found the well worn paths of pop-songcraft and minimalist production left him something to be desired. So he shelved his record and tabled his ambitions as a writer. Throwing himself into the technical side of music production, he left the rural commune in Pulga heading south once again. Soon he was honing his skills with some of LA’s most elite producers (Gus Seyffert , Michael Harris, John Congleton) for a variety of high profile projects, including Roger Waters “Dark Side of the Moon Redux”, Father John Misty, Local Natives, among others. Sam’s new songs see him stepping out from the shadows yet again, using his hard-earned spectral toolchest to work along his own inspiration and every resource at his disposal.
